@Rachel_Thorn@queer.party You can follow hashtags with the normal web interface now :ameowbongo: Search for a hashtag, click it, and there should be a follow option! (Near the top, I think)
@Rachel_Thorn@queer.party You can pin hashtags using the deck/advanced web interface (and you can add more hashtags to said pin). I don't think that is the follow hashtag feature, but it is quite similar!
@maia Seeing no bio after a follow/request just feels a little bit unnerving. On that note though, perhaps I should add more about myself to my bio, it is currently quite short!
@thatonecalculator Calckey (see I got the name right this time 😅) is so cool! It may load a bit slower than Mastodon, but it has so many awesome features to make up for it!
@RinguPingu Down the rabbit hole we go! On that note, it seems very easy to host a smaller instance of some kind. I've suddenly been filled with the urge to do something akin to recreating the Mastodon instance that I am on but in like Calckey :ameowbongo:
@chrisabides Be wary though, the point about post quoting isn't quite true. Other types of fediverse instances (such as those that run MissKey) do, as far as I am aware, support post quoting. It is my understanding that when a Mastodon user does get post quoted from such an instance, they simply do not get a notification.
I'm currently on a little quest to explore more of the #fediverse! I've made a #calckey account (because I'm primarily interested in microblogging), and I am currently looking at what #lemmy and #pixelfed has to offer. I love that so many communities can come together through the ActivityPub protocol!
@nikki Be wary though, as far as I am aware, this isn't entirely true. There seems to be fediverse instances (such as Misskey) that do seem to have the equivalent of QTs. If I understood it correctly, it is just that Mastodon apparently does not notify you if it happens. See: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/18473
@mia_miau@chaos.social The pain is real :( I have some strong delete-birdsite-account urges that are currently only being held back by the existence of all of the cool people I follow there.
@bloor Some fediverse instances will let you do the equivalent of QTing something (I believe for example Misskey supports it). What you can do on Mastodon is boost + reply or just link the post you want to QT in a new post. Only the former will give notifications to the original poster though.
@stib@aus.social Boosting and replying perhaps? You could also write whatever you want about the toot you want to quote and then post the link to it. As far as I am aware, only the former will actually give notifications to the one being quoted though. I do believe that some other fediverse networks like Misskey provide a proper equivalent to quote-tweeting.
