:description "I'm Rain and I'm a sheet of paper! I also like to proclaim myself to be your friendly neighbourhood eldritch abomination and whether or not that is true, I suppose that's up to you!"

I'm so intrigued to see what Rage of Elements will bring, not only because I am interested in the Elemental Planes but also because I want all of the juicy deets about the upcoming rule changes! :ablobfoxbongohyper:
@testsnake Private instances are perfectly fine! There is nothing wrong with wanting to explore the Fediverse on an instance that is yours and yours alone!
For context though, I am biased towards self-hosting. I am running the private Calckey instance I am replying from, I've ran a private Akkoma instance before, and I am running a low user Kbin instance.
Generally speaking, the resources required to host a private Fediverse instance are low. You could likely get an instance running on the equivalent of a Raspberry Pi! (Would recommend getting as much RAM as possible though) Though, some instances are harder to initialise than others! Akkoma and Calckey are a breeze to set up, but Kbin is a nightmare if you don't know what you're doing (or, Docker-wise if you don't use the V2 docker instructions). Luckily, the Fediverse tends to be a nice place, so there is help to be found if you find yourself stuck somewhere!
@ada I got Kbin federation working about an hour ago! Apparently Nginx 301 responses can turn POST requests into GET requests, something which completely broke federation for me.
Although, Lemmy still doesn't federate quite right, I think that might be Lemmy's fault though, since I've seen PRs for fixing that on the Lemmy-side of things.
@0xtero I truly resonate with this message! The Lemmy admins are sus and I'd much prefer hosting Kbin over Lemmy. It is truly just a pain that the difference between getting a functioning Kbin instance running vs a functioning Lemmy instance is so great.
Tried Discord-Matrix bridging yesterday (by means of mautrix-discord), it was surprisingly functional in relay mode. I just wish the backfill worked properly!
